New Book Cover and a Bullet Through the Window

November 28, 2016 | Back

To Watch You Bleed CoverThis past week has been downright crazy on my end. I had some great time with family, an exciting new image from my cover designer and even a call to 911. I′ll start with the good though.

As I do hope you were able, I spent the Friday to Sunday afternoon up in the North Carolina foothills with my family for Thanksgiving. As always it′s a great time to finally see everyone (well, most everyone) and this year was no exception. We even got my dad to try out the PS4 Virtual Reality (VR) headset. He doesn′t typically enjoy games that much because of the controllers, but with the VR you get to use your natural motions more so it suited him well. I have video but I′m going withhold it. Haha!

Then on Saturday my amazing cover designer, Paramita Bhattacharjee at Creative Paramita, and I decided on the official cover for my upcoming psychological horror/thriller, To Watch You Bleed. I am extremely pleased with the design. It captures the essence and disturbing nature of the story it frames so well.

Last on my list is calling 911. On Thanksgiving my brother and I stayed in Concord since he works third shift and we couldn′t make it back to our parent′s place until Friday. So we were watching a comedy show on Netflix on the projection screen when I heard a noise. I got up and then the glass shattered in the window behind the projection screen.

A Bullet Through My Front WindowAt first I thought someone was breaking into the house, but after my brother called 911 and the Concord City Police arrived we learned that someone had shot through our window. It broke the front window panes (as shown below) and put a hole in my projection screen before lodging in the living room wall. The police found two shotgun shells that matched the buck shot lodged in the wall about fifty to sixty yards away across the road. Thankfully neither of us were hurt, but the bullet only missed my brother by about a yard and a half.

At this point we are fairly certain that it was random, likely some drunk being careless and not in his right mind, but the police are still investigating. It happened on Thanksgiving, but it gave my brother and I one more thing to be thankful for rather than spoiling the holiday. We′re both still here. So to continue Thanksgiving, I′m thankful for the Concord City Police Department′s fast response and for God′s protection.
